Malcolm Forbes’ pad overlooking the Mediterranean is a place to be. I managed to sneak into the private residence. That is the way to live. I did spend a night in Hotel Solazur where Malcolm gave his famous bash. Everyone knows Malcolm in Tangier. He dined at Cafe Africa where I ate everyone of my meals. I have discovered Tagin - a dish that can accommodate chicken, beef or fish cooked in a special pot with a lemony sauce and olives. It is to die for. Couscous tastes much better in Morocco. Pastilla, another dish originally cooked with pigeons in a pastry shell is meal that takes serious preparation like paella. Chef Benanini of Cafe Africa accommodates all appetites with dignity and class. If you are going for a short stay to Tangier stay at Hotel El Minzah- you will feel like royalty.
The view from Hotel Merindez of the medina in Fez is to be treasured as the sun sets and lights gradually come on with the voices of Mullahs from Mosques in the background.
The mosaics at Volubilis are from 2nd to 4th century BC Roman ruins and look as though they were done not too long ago.
Aside from the above mentioned outstanding sites and gastronomic delights, Morocco can be difficult on one's nerves. The constant pestering by would be Guides, dust and flies are not easy to contend with. You do get to Mercedes for a cab ride every where but the door handle has been replaced by a rope and the back seat by a mattress!
