Food
Traveling around the world has allowed me to sample foods from different lands with their own unique flavors. Food of course includes spirits, snacks and anything worth eating or just too hard to ignore. The recipes when possible are included in the web link (that is if it is in blue/green and underlined). I expect you know a better recipe, please send me the web link.
Spain:
Salmorejo (creamy gazpacho)
Rabo de Toro (Bull's Tail) Oxtail Soup
Fino: Sherry in Spain looks like white wine. Interestingly different. Another version is called Manzanilla.
Thailand:
Tom-Yam-Goong (Spicy Shrimp Soup) The spices are certain to evoke a response in your eyes, nose and mouth but can you stop!
Fried Insects: Include crickets, silkworm, crickets and water beetle. Enjoyed as a snack, I did not dare!
Turkey:
Iskender Kebab: Named after Alexander the Great, it is lamb in yogurt sauce. Hearty, delicious and incomparable.
Turkish Coffee: The original coffee to be enjoyed
Portugal:
Bacalhau (Cod fish) I never developed a taste for it but if it can be tasty this is the way.
Brazil:
Feijoada (Black Beans) Nobody does it better!
Morocco:
Couscous It only taste good in Morocco but you can try
Pastilla The authentic dish with pigeons!
Tagine of Lamb Slow cooked lamb with artichokes and green peas
Moroccan Mint Tea Served in a little glass full of mint leaves and poured from quite a height. It is refreshingly smooth and the best digestive after a hearty Moroccan meal.
Greece:
Eggplant Moussaka Baked eggplant is unusual done the Greek way. I still have fresh memories of this old woman who cooked a mouth watering version that I ate very day in a small fishing village called Bali on the island of Crete.
Egypt:
Koushari I have yet to find this combination of Lentils, Macaroni and rice elsewhere and only the Egyptians seem to know this staple of their diet.
Vietnam:
Cau Lau (noodle soup) and fried wontons are my favorites but I have not been able to find the recipes. There are many recipes for the rest.
